"The Barnfield Project is a small charity providing family support services for families with a child under 5. In January 2004 we decided to update our ancient, second-hand computers and install a wireless network. Norman advised us on what equipment to purchase and then set up the new systems.
Most of the 8 staff were apprehensive about moving from paper-based systems, but with Norman's encouragement and assistance everyone is discovering how much easier, faster and neater their work is!
Norman keeps an eye on our system and makes sure we are virus-free and that our data is backed up remotely every day. He responds quickly when things go wrong and always exudes an air of calm. We are very happy with the service he provides."
"Active Faith Communities Programme (AFCP) is a small independent charity providing advice and support to community projects in West Yorkshire.
Norman has been AFCP's IT consultant for three years, initially installing equipment for a three-person office, and devising a networked system tailored to our requirements. More recently Norman has effected a major extension to the system, following expansion.
Norman's distinctive contribution has been his ability to understand the particular requirements of the voluntary sector, and the range of IT ability among our staff and volunteers. He is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure everything works to the customer's satisfaction - even to the extent of harrying phone line and broadband suppliers to ensure the synchronisation of the systems. When problems arise he is assiduous at solving them.
Norman derives great enjoyment and satisfaction from making computers fit the needs of his clients, rather than simply installing one-size-fits-all systems. All the organisations I have introduced him to are unreservedly pleased with the service they receive, and with Norman's highly professional but always friendly approach."
"Norman Leach has made a major contribution to our work at Time and Talents Association.
As well as installing new equipment and software, he advises on potential future needs - enabling us to plan future budgets. By providing us with advice on system and software upgrades, and through measured and careful explanation of new equipment, Norman has enabled this small charity to manage its ICT more effectively than ever before."
"As organiser since 1996 of the Computer Courses For The Over 60s run at the Exchange Reminiscence Centre, Norman has proved to be a most competent and effective teacher.
Teaching the over 60s requires a special talent. The approach has to be sensitive, encouraging and purposeful. They do not take kindly to being patronised, and are not impressed by technical jargon. Norman seems to have absolutely the right formula.
The content of his Internet and Email courses covers just the right amount of technical background and procedural tasks. It is a testimony to his ability that all those attending Norman's courses quickly master the techniques.
By the end of any of his courses, those attending display a genuine feeling of confidence in what they have learned, and a conviction that they can put this into practise at home. That is an achievement of worth.
In addition to his teaching successes, Norman has resolved a number of IT difficulties for us, and provided me with timely advice about keeping our computers working smoothly. It is to him we owe thanks for setting up our wireless link to the Lewisham broadband service."
"At Lewisham Law Centre we are delighted with GMT's reasonably priced, reliable, and solution-orientated service. Norman Leach is an absolute godsend when it comes to demystifying computers."
